Rotational Moulding

Vink Plast offers plastic solutions made by rotational moulding. We have access to the technology through partners in Denmark and Germany. The costs associated with producing the moulding tools are relatively low, which is why rotational moulding is typically used for volumes of products from around 200 to 2000 units per year.

Rotational moulding is often used for producing containers, tanks, boxes and tubs. The alternative to rotational moulding is often welded constructions with many expensive manual processes.

Advantages:

  • Cost-efficient alternative to welding
  • More freedom to engineers in development phase
  • Moulding tools are low cost
  • Consistent measurements for every minute (narrow tolerances)

Disadvantages:

  • Less choices of materials
  • Time consuming when compared to other methods

More freedom in developing

Rotational moulding has the option of moulding different components into the finished products for example threaded bushings. Rotational moulding gives the developing engineers and designers a large degree of freedom when it comes to designing complex geometry, and the possibility of producing both small and very large products. There are many options in terms of materials, especially PE is a very commonly used material, for example for oil tanks, lubricant containers and trays, as the material has excellent chemical properties.

Control the tolerance

The tolerances of the products are controlled by managing how much material is added. The process, described in simple terms, works by having a hollow mould that is filled with material before the rotation begins. The material is heated and the mould is rotated on two axis. This means the material will be distributed evenly in the mould. The rotation continues during both the heating and cooling process.

The finished products can be completed using CNC machines. To reduce costs it is also possible to use a single mould for several parts and separate them afterwards by machining.
